OUR STUDIO RENTAL CONTRACT IS ON HOLD

On Wednesday, April 1 I appeared before the Brookfield Select Board to discuss renewing our contract for use of the Green Room, located adjacent to the Great Hall stage on the second floor of the Town Hall, as our live studio. Our request was to renew the agreement for two years, not only to bring it into line with the April 3, 2028 expiration date of the antenna/transmitter and Mezzanine contract, but to alleviate the need to go before the Select Board every year several months in advance to begin renewal negotiations. The Brookfield Select Board’s Executive Assistant has notified us that the Select Board will put Apple Country Radio on its Wednesday, April 1 meeting agenda, where they will review – and hopefully, renew – the license agreement that allows us to use the Green Room on the second floor of the Town Hall and the Mezzanine above it as our live studio and storage space. Apple Country Radio has spent almost $12,000 of our own funds cleaning, painting, refinishing the floors and Mezzanine stairwell, and installing electric wiring, lighting, and Ethernet capability in both the Mezzanine and the Green Room. … Continue reading →

TANTASQUA TECH COMES THROUGH AGAIN!

On March 4, a crew of nine Electrical Engineering students, led by instructor and Electrical Curriculum Supervisor Noel Lamothe, volunteered their time and talent to trace and label each of the newly-installed Ethernet lines from the outlets in our new Green Room studio and the Mezzanine above it to the basement two floors below so that the cables can be connected in the proper sequence to the Town Hall server rack.

At some time tomorrow our antenna will be disconnected from our transmitter array and removed from its current location at the Gavitt Wire & Cable’s old factory. It will be put in storage until some time late in the following week, when it will be remounted on the Brookfield Town Hall Clock Tower just down the street from our current location. Until then, Apple Country Radio, WACF-LP 98.1FM will go dark. Over the past three years, donors and listeners around the region gifted Apple Country Radio with over 50 cartons of CDs and vinyl! Those cartons have been stored at the former Gavitt offices, awaiting transport to the storage room above our new studio space at the Brookfield Town Hall. On Thursday, October 9, at 11am, a group of volunteers arrived in a white van from Jillian Carty’s CAD class ready to help! These students were eager to work and superbly organized.
